A New Name, A New Label, A New Era: GUMR Launches ‘Damn Code’ on Freaky Nation Records
Portsmouth, UK
A fresh wave is about to hit the underground electronic scene as GUMR makes his explosive debut with ‘Damn Code’, the first release on his newly launched imprint, Freaky Nation Records. Dropping Friday, May 16, 2025, this release marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter in deep tech and acid house.
A Vision for the Future of Underground Music
Freaky Nation Records isn’t just another label—it’s a movement. Founded by GUMR, the label is dedicated to pushing deep, raw, and hypnotic grooves, giving a home to the cutting-edge sounds that move true underground heads. ‘Damn Code’ is the first manifesto of this vision, a track built for late-night dance floors and peak-time energy.
The Story Behind ‘Damn Code’
Born out of the creative isolation of the pandemic, ‘Damn Code’ is a masterclass in minimalism and groove. Featuring a hypnotic vocal hook—“I’m trying to break up this damn code”—the track reflects both the technical and emotional struggles of producing music in a world of uncertainty. Inspired by the stripped-back approach of legends like MR G, GUMR crafted this track with a focus on modulation, automation, and deep rhythmic flow.
“During lockdown, I had to strip everything back—just like the greats do. I worked with a limited number of elements but made sure each one had purpose and movement. The result is a track that’s simple but powerful, designed for those moments in the club when everything clicks,” says GUMR.
A Sound That Hits Hard
‘Damn Code’ blends deep sub-bass, a moody sawtooth lead, and eerie synths to create a dark yet infectious atmosphere. The track evolves constantly, with subtle automation and modulation building tension before delivering a devastating drop. It’s minimal, but every detail has been fine-tuned for maximum impact.
Remix Artist Quote
“Gary's original was full of trippy elements, so it was a lot of fun twisting them into a house groove.” – Ollie Drummond
The Remix: Ollie Drummond’s Take
Ollie Drummond brings his signature sound to the ‘Damn Code’ remix, infusing it with the deep, rolling grooves reminiscent of the classic Wiggle releases. His remix captures that spooky melancholic overtone, layered over an infectious house groove, creating a perfect balance between dark atmospherics and uplifting energy. It’s the kind of track that hits you in the chest—deep, heady, and hypnotic, while maintaining a forward-driving rhythm designed to move the dancefloor.
A Statement of Intent
As the first release under his new alias GUMR, and the debut for Freaky Nation Records, ‘Damn Code’ is more than just a track—it’s a statement. It signals the arrival of a label that’s here to push boundaries while staying true to the underground’s raw, stripped-back ethos.
‘Damn Code’ will be available on all major streaming platforms and digital stores from May 16, 2025.
